Francesca Santamaria

Francesca Santamaria is an artist active in the performing arts.

Her research focuses on contemporary performance logics and, through the moving body and its limits, it investigates and questions the concept of “performing”.

After her dance education at Balletto di Roma and at Biennale College Danza in Venice, she dances, among others, for Roberto Zappalà, Moritz Ostrushnjak, Amos Ben-Tal, Manfredi Perego, Alexandra Pirici.

In 2021 she creates and interprets “SHIFTING TOOLS”, a screendance work presented and awarded at several international festivals. In 2022 she joins CIMD’s Incubator for future choreographers, in which she develops the macro-project “GOOD VIBES ONLY”. In 2023 she is a selected artist for Vetrina della giovane danza d’autore [IT].

She makes her author’s debut at B.Motion 2024 with “COME SOPRAVVIVERE IN CASO DI DANNI PERMANENTI”, co-produced by Operaestate Festival, with the support of Carrozzerie N.o.t. and hosted in residency at the Lavanderia a Vapore in Turin.

In the same year she presents “GOOD VIBES ONLY (beta test)”at MILANoLTRE Festival, Più che Danza Festival and FDE Festival Danza Estate co-producers of the work, meanwhile “GOOD VIBES ONLY (the great effort)” is selected as finalist project for DNAppunti coreografici 2024.

She collaborates with various artists from the theatre and performance scene including FanniBanni’s, Pietro Angelini, Vittorio Pagani, UCCI UCCI, VEGA. From these encounters arise different projects, presented in important Italian cultural contexts, including Piccolo Teatro di Milano, Biennale College Teatro Regia, Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo, TWAIN.

Alongside her authorial path, she interacts with academic research: she graduates from the Sapienza University of Rome in Performing Arts with a thesis on Dance Dramaturgy and between 2021 and 2023 she takes part in several projects with the ASAC department of the Venice Biennale.
